The pioneers

Ivo Caprino in Norway made puppet films such as Karius and Baktus and The Ashlad and the Hungry Troll, and Danish studios made the first Nordic feature, Magic Lighter, in 1946.

Picture books on screen

From the 1970s, Swedish and Danish animators brought picture-book heroes such as Bamse, Alfie Atkins and Circleen to the screen.

New features

Studios in Helsinki, Copenhagen and Oslo now make features such as Niko: Beyond the Northern Lights and Three Robbers and a Lion.
